Festival Diary: Day 8

Gilbert & SullivanWe were proud to welcome the Bentley Operatic Society to the festival last night, in the year they celebrate an entire century of performing the works of those two giants of Victorian musical theatre, WS Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan.

Selections from such light opera classics as Patience, HMS Pinafore and The Mikado were on the programme, and there was even time for a bit of Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus. Many thanks to the 40-strong chorus for an entertaining evening. You can catch the society’s next full G&S production at the Brindley Theatre in Runcorn, next February, or see the Bentley Operatic Society website for other upcoming concerts and appearances.

Tonight, a change of pace as St Paul’s Church hosts a Barn Dance and Hot Pot Supper, with guest folk band The Travelling People. Great job if you’ve booked in advance, but there are still tickets available on the door. Bring your own soft or alcoholic drinks and drinking implements — your delicious supper is included in the £6 ticket price.
