Richard Lea, of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, Liverpool. performed a most intriguing programme of organ music in the Parish Church for Day 3 of the Festival, yesterday. Well-known classics such as Bach’s Toccata in Fugue in D Minor sat happily alongside quirkier modern pieces, such as Andreas Willscher’s Toccata alla Rumba, which you can listen to below in a recording by Matthias Rascher.
Lea performed music by Gounod, Elgar, Walton and others, with brilliant precision and real passion. It’s always a treat to welcome guests to play on an instrument that has a reputation as one of the North West’s finest church organs. (Read more about it on the church website.)
See you tonight (Monday, 18 June) at St Mary & St Paul’s School, when primary school children from across the borough will recite poetry and prose in this year’s Schools’ Verse-Speaking Festival.
