St Mary & St Paul’s Primary School have hosted the Schools Verse Speaking Competition every year since 2008 – and yesterday they took their chance to seize first place for the first time.
The school beat four others from across Knowsley and Halton with their recitation of “Snow White” from Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes – a performance (pictured) that was both very grisly and very funny.
All the participating children did excellently with a programme of poems that included Hilaire Belloc’s Matilda, Marriott Edgar’s The Lion and Albert, and Pam Ayres’s Oh, I Wish I’d Looked after My Teeth.
Festgoers will have a night off tonight, as the advertised Salvation Army event has unfortunately been cancelled, due to illness.
There are still things you can catch during the day, however. Pop in to Prescot Museum & Library to view the Prescot Festival archives and an exhibition of vintage Prescot postcards, or call in at Prescot Methodist Centre between 9.30 and 11.30am for a cuppa.
