The Prescot Festival will get toes tapping as it takes audiences through a history of swing music next week.
Swingshift Big Band (pictured), already a firm favourite with Prescot audiences, are the special guests on the opening night of the town’s fourteenth annual arts festival on Friday 15 June. They’ll be joined by vocalist Corinne Andrew in a concert featuring melodies made famous by such jazz legends as Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller and Quincy Jones.
The evening sets off a 10-day programme of entertainment, to include a WWI centenary performance of Fauré’s stirring Requiem, a visit from Lancashire-based Wingates Brass Band and a Proms-style finale starring the Maghull Wind Orchestra, which turns 40 this year.
“With work on Shakespeare North’s theatre and college now underway, and a host of new businesses and enterprises springing up in Prescot, there’s a real buzz in the air at the moment,” said Artistic Director Dr Robert Howard.
“We’re as proud as ever to be playing a part in the cultural regeneration of the town, by making quality arts and music accessible to everyone at affordable prices.”
