Heritage Open Days 2022

The historic parish church of St Mary the Blessed Virgin, Prescot, will once again open its doors for Heritage Open Days.

Built in 1610, this beautiful place of worship is Knowsley’s only Grade I listed building. Among hundreds of fascinating features, it boasts an Anglo-Saxon stone font, a Burne-Jones-designed stained-glass window and a rare ‘weeping chancel’ – an architectural feature in which the the nave and altar are positioned so as to reflect the drooping head of the suffering Christ.

Visitors can follow a guided tour on their smartphones, and heritage guides will be on hand to give a friendly welcome and answer any questions.

Drop in on any of the following days and times:

  • Saturday 10 September 1pm-4pm
  • Sunday 11 September 1pm-4pm
  • Saturday 17 September 1pm-4pm
  • Sunday 18 September 1pm-4pm

Entry is free, although donations are always welcome. Visit prescotparish.org.uk to find out more.
