Celebrating Britten & Elgar:
Wirral Symphony Orchestra
in Concert
Conductor Jonathan Small
Cellist Gethyn Jones
Tonight we hold a very special classical concert in honour of the centenary of Benjamin Britten’s birth, opening with his dramatic Four Sea Interludes, from the opera Peter Grimes. Elgar’s Cello Concerto – made famous by Jacqueline du Pré in the 1960s – follows, with soloist Gethyn Jones, of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. The concert ends with Dvorak’s celebrated Symphony No. 8. Jonathan Small, also of the RLPO, conducts.
